Texas Democratic Party Statement on SCOTUS Hearing on Emergency Abortion Care

AUSTIN, Texas – Today, the Supreme Court of the United States heard oral arguments on whether emergency rooms in anti-abortion states are legally required to treat women in pregnancy-related crises.

Texas Democratic Party Executive Director Monique Alcala issued the following statement:

“Idahoans, Texans and millions more alike are feeling the consequences of abortion bans across the country. Even in cases of pregnancy related emergencies, hospitals and doctors are turning away women out of fear of prosecution from their own government. And now, the same Supreme Court that overturned Roe v. Wade will decide the fate of emergency, life-saving prenatal care. This is nothing short of an all-American nightmare – and MAGA Republicans are the only ones to blame. Rest assured, Texas Democrats are mobilizing around this issue like never before because this is not just about state’s rights – it’s about the safety, health and freedom for women everywhere.”
